CGI — computer-generated imagery
Broad term for visuals created with software.
The umbrella over everything on this page: any image or motion made by software instead of a camera. Films, ads, games and product shots all sit under it. The knot below is pure math — thousands of points arranged in space, redrawn sixty times a second.

3D rendering — model to pixels
The process of generating a 2D image from a 3D model.
Geometry becomes an image only when a renderer decides how surfaces catch light. Same model below, four passes: what changes is not the shape — it's how the software turns it into pixels. Watch the light move in the final pass.

3D modeling — building the geometry
Creating the underlying geometry.
Before any render, someone builds the shape: vertices, edges, faces. This is that stage, live. Pick a primitive, then add resolution and watch the vertex count climb — that is what "more detail" actually costs in a model.

Motion graphics — designed motion
Often includes 3D elements, but focuses on animated graphic design.
Less about realism, more about rhythm: type, shapes and logos choreographed in loops with easing and timing. The demo below is a graphic-design loop running on a 3D engine — the motion is the design.

Real-time 3D used in filmmaking.
